I typed into google "building a new religion" and I found this article on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God-BuildingA man named Anatoly Lunacharsky saw a need for people to have religion in the soviet union. So he attempted to create a pseudo religion. Only a few aspects were implemented. I don't think this is the route to go. It does show how rituals are needed to give meaning to people's lives.
